Indications:

Carbamazepine is indicated for the treatment of simple and complex partial seizures and in generalized seizures of the grand mal type. It is also used to treat trigeminal neuralgia or a painful nerve condition of the face. It works by reducing excessive nerve signals in the brain and restoring the normal balance of nerve activity.

How to take:

Carbamazepine comes in a tablet form, taken orally with or without food usually twice a day or as prescribed by the doctor. Tablet should be taken whole and not to be crushed or chewed as it may increase side effects or destroy the potency of the drug. Dosage requirements for carbamazepine are variable and must be individualized on the basis of the disease under treatment and the response of the patient. Precautions:

Inform the doctor of medical history if you have allergies to any medication especially to carbamazepine. This medication may cause dizziness hence avoid engaging in activities requiring mental alertness. Also it is important to limit intake of alcoholic beverages and prolonged exposure to the sun. Always wear sunscreen and protective clothing when exposed to sunlight. This medication is not recommended to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
